Let the countdown officially begin:
Star Wars: Episode VII will hit theaters on December 18, 2015.
The major news was announced today via a statement by Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn.
âWeâre very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday filmgoing season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture,â said Horn.
J.J. Abrams will direct the wildly anticipated blockbuster - and also help write it now - and it begins filming next spring in London.
Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, Bryan Burk and Abrams are producing the film, while Tommy Harper and Jason McGatlin will serve as executive producers.
John Williams, who scored the first three films, but not the more recent prequels, will return for Episode VII.
