Rachel Poole, 31, was stabbed by an intruder in her Texas home last week while chatting on video with her military husband, who is deployed overseas.
Poole was nine months pregnant at the time she was stabbed from behind multiple times by Corey Bernard Moss, who attacked with a stainless steel knife.
During the attack, her husband, Justin Pele Poole, an American soldier stationed thousands of miles away in Asia, saw the attack unfold on FaceTime.
Poole was still in critical condition when her baby, Isabella, was born. Doctors performed a successful cesarean section, her stepfather, Gary Jones, said.
The newborn, thankfully, is listed in good condition.
Police Det. Mike Baranyay told the media that the woman recognized her attacker, who was hiding in the home, and screamed his name to her husband.
Rachel Poole managed to call authorities as well.
A short time later, the 19-year-old suspect, Moss, was located by Fort Bliss Military Police, taken into custody and turned over to El Paso, Tex., police.
Moss allegedly told investigators that the stabbing victim owed him money for vehicle repairs. He was charged with criminal attempted capital murder.Â
Jail records show his bond is set at $ 150,000.
According to a police affidavit, the suspect is a soldier in training on Fort Bliss military base. Poole, meanwhile, continues to fight for her life in the hospital.
Fort Bliss Spokesman Maj. Joe Buccino stated, "The victim's husband is deployed overseas in southwest Asia. He has been deployed about nine months."
On Facebook Saturday, Justin Poole showed some pictures of his newborn daughter and recovering wife. On one photo of his ailing spouse, he wrote:
"My wife fought back so that her daughter could live. But she can not see out of her eye still at all. And can't see or hold her baby until she recovers."
Friends of the Poole family have started a fundraising effort to raise the family at least $ 5,000. Currently, the online fund has raised $ 5,983 and counting.
