Britney Spears Music Used To Tell The Story of Jesus Christ: Crazy or Cool?

Britney Spears. Jesus Christ. Aside from wildly successful comebacks, what do these two have in common? A musical, that's what.

SPEARS: The Gospel According to Britney will use the Britney Spears' music to tell the story of Jesus Christ.

It's a good thing this show is one-night only because the theater might not be standing by the time it's over.

"Is it the greatest story ever told set to the greatest music ever written?" asks the shows' promotional materials? Umm...uh...no idea.

The show promises to answer the question, though, provided the lead performer isn't struck by lighting like Jim Caviezel was when he gave the savior-impersonating a go back in 2004.

The musical is set to include such Brit-brit hits as "Stronger," "Lucky," and "Crazy." No news yet on whether or not "Work, B*tch" makes an appearance, as one of the parables perhaps?

Do you think Jesus would've used photoshop?

Patrick Blute, the production's creator, says that "the Britney Spears you see is not Britney Spears" and "the Jesus Christ you read is not Jesus Christ." Is Britney just a hologram? What is happening??

Blute explains "these are manifestations. Accounts through the media, through words of followers, of friends, of foes, of villains, of heroes, of liars, of biases. It's a falsehood that people believe fame and fortune create happiness."

Ehh, Blute? Jesus pretty much accepted being poor. Haven't you ever seen his Grail cup?

"SPEARS is a very special type of theatrical experience," Blute writes. "It is a piece that reconciles a lot of the anxiety 20-somethings feel about living in a society that has thousands of statements and not much substance. It appeals to those from a religious background because it tells an essential story using fragments of pop culture in a non-offensive way."

The production, which debuted to a packed house at Columbia University in April, will run at the Foxwoods Theater in New York City for one night only on November 7th.

Once is probably enough.

It's your turn to sound off. Is SPEARS a crazy idea or totally cool?
