Katharine McPhee and her husband Nick Cokas have quietly parted ways, and this happened long before her public smooch with Michael Morris.
"They've been separated for six months," a friend says of the couple, who got married over five years ago. "Nick continues to co-manage her music."
The news comes on the heels of reports that Katharine McPhee and Michael Morris, her former Smash director and who is also married, are together.
Morris' wife is actress Mary McCormack (In Plain Sight, Private Parts). They have three daughters, 2, 6 and 9. Katharine, 29, has no children with Nick.
Katharine and Nick Cokas first met in 2005 when they performed in a L.A. production of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir and soon began a romantic relationship.
Later that year, Katharine auditioned for American Idol, where she came in second. They got engaged in 2007 and wed in Beverly Hills on February 2, 2008.
Earlier this year, the singer-actress explained that she and her soon-to-be ex-husband - who is 19 years her senior - put starting a family on hold.
"I once thought that by now I'd have lots of children, but actually I'm really enjoying being able to go from point A to point B," she said. "I'm selfish right now."
"But that's how and where I should be. The thing is, work is the thing I love the most."
