Following months of speculation about Amanda Bynes‘ mental illness, a new report indicates that the star has both schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
The formal diagnosis was made while Amanda was still being treated at UCLA Medical Center, which she recently left for a rehab center in Malibu.
“It was difficult to process for her parents," a source said, despite the fact that Amanda Bynes' mental illness was what they both expected.
The bright side here is that it is believed that Amanda can lead a long, healthy and normal life as long as she takes medication, according to insiders.
Doctors at the treatment facility "are still working to get her therapeutic meds and she’s responding to medication she is being given to treat her diagnosis.â€
On Monday Bynes’ parents, via attorney Tamar Arminak, released a statement about progress she is making in treatment and why she moved locations:
“Upon recommendation by the skilled healthcare professionals at UCLA, Amanda is receiving specialized treatment in a private facility outside of Los Angeles."

The star's mother Lynn Bynes was granted a conservatorship LPS of her daughter after she set a fire in the driveway of a nearby neighbor this summer.
