Pamela Anderson to Run New York City Marathon, Raise Money for Haiti

She got famous by running in slow-motion on the beach, Baywatch style.

But Pamela Anderson is now making headline for her plans to run in a very different manner: without a red bathing suit, but for a very good cause.

"I'm running the New York Marathon this year and raising funds for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization," the 46-year old Tweeted yesterday, adding:

"Together, I hope we can raise at least $ 500,000 and make a huge impact in this magical country. Keep checking my page and Facebook and Twitter to find out about all sorts of contests I'll be running from now until November - I will give updates on my training too."

Why is the busty blonde taking to the streets of The Big Apple for 26.2 miles on November 3 on behalf of this troubled nation?

Why not just pose for more seductive bikini photos?

She explained on Twitter:

"Poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Just a one-hour flight from Miami. How are we not more involved? Desperate need for things we take for granted - clean water, safe school structures, medical facilities, emergency rooms, reforestation possibilities - conservation, education...the opportunities are endless.

To spend time in Haiti is to fall in love with Haiti...It has been heartbreaking to witness the poverty among people in what should be a very rich country...It feels good to help and it heals us too...I appreciate your interest and support."
