Harry Potter Spinoff Films Confirmed, J.K. Rowling to Pen "Extension of the Wizarding World"

Harry Potter lives! Sort of!

In an unexpected piece of movie news, J.K. Rowling has announced that she'll make her screenwriting debut by penning a series of films based on the fictional Hogwarts textbook "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."

  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

In a Facebook post, the author explained how she's "protective" of textbook scribe Newt Scamander and told Warner Bros. that she'd like a crack at turning his work into a movie.

"An idea took shape that I couldn’t dislodge. That is how I ended up pitching my own idea for a film to Warner Bros.," Rowlings explained, adding of the project:

"Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world.

"The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway."

Interesting, Intriguing. TOTALLY AWESOME.

No release date or production date has been announced for the first film, but it's safe to say we reacted to this announcement just like Dumbledore in the following GIF:
