Getting stuck in a crowded elevator for nearly an hour may not sound like fun, but it can be if you're with the cast of Modern Family. Julie Bowen, Eric Stonestreet, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson found themselves in a bit of a tight situation when the elevator they were taking to a charity event stopped suddenly between floors, trapping them and 12 others for more than 45 minutes on Friday, March 1.

What could have been a nightmare, however, turned into something like a scene out of the co-stars' hit sitcom. Using their phones to communicate with the outside world, the trio enlisted their fellow elevator passengers in recording funny video messages to post to Twitter.
The actors kept things light -- and calm -- until rescue workers from the Kansas City Fire Department could make their way down from the 40th floor to the third floor to free the group. Afterward, they joked about the incident on social media.

"Finally made it out of the stuck elevator at the one hour mark," Ferguson wrote. "At least the firemen in K.C. are cute."
Quipped Stonestreet: "I honestly handled being stuck in an elevator for 50 min better than I thought. All Jesse Tyler did was pass wind."
Bowen, 42, Stonestreet, 41, and Ferguson, 37, were en route to Kids Night Out 2013, a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City at the Sheraton Kansas City Hotel in Missouri. According to the Kansas City Star, they were supposed to take the stage at 9 p.m. but didn't make it on until after 10, by which time a third of the crowd had already left.
Stonestreet ended the evening on a light note, though. Addressing the crowd at the fundraiser, he joked, "Have a great night -- and don't use the elevator."
